Linocut printing
Using one waste to giving life to another
I rarely print on paper. I usually use second-hand or sustainable clothes, lately I’ve been renting “patches”, which I or other skilled hands then sew onto various pieces of clothing. As part of this concept, I collaborated with several companies and events for which I had the honor to create sustainable merch, and pieces of my work can also be found in Nitra second hand “Sekáč je láska”
Visual
In terms of visuals, I most often work with text, which is inspired by my bachelor’s degree in teaching psychology and the knowledge of Carl Rogers, Friedrich Nietzsche and other great thinkers. Texts on graphics and therefore on clothing should encourage expression, but not evaluation or scaling of others.
In addition, I often work with portraits. It started as a series of portraits of relatively forgotten personalities of Czech and Slovak culture. The principle was that people often have certain pop stars on their T-shirts, this should have been the exact opposite at the time of creation (2018). I don’t include names in the portraits to encourage conversations and spread awareness starting with the questions “who’s on your shirt?”
Sustainability
5 years after the tragedy in the city of Rana Plaza, where 1138 women workers of the so-called were killed when a textile factory collapsed. of fast fashion, I decided to make a performance during which I printed 1138 commemorative graphics with the question “Who made your clothes?” in 1 day (exactly it took 23 hours and 20 minutes). It was a reference to the inhumane conditions in this industry as well as pointing out possible solutions, which include the Fashion Revolution movement. A few years later, thanks to the support of the art support fund, I had the opportunity to transform this performance into a 13m long installation, which I called the “Mausoleum of victims of fast fashion” and it can be installed at various festivals or places, so that the message can spread further.
Collaborations
Personally, of course, I work best in collaboration. I have several collaborations with great people and projects. With Kornelia Lo, we created several clothing series dyed with natural materials. The graphic pointed out what the clothes contained together with the marked question “What’s in your clothes?” You can view the series on the Kornelia Lo Studio website.
In addition, I collaborated with the film festival “Jeden Svet”, the organizations Hidepark Nitra, and STORM, and I am increasingly trying to connect concepts with skateboarding and with amazing places such as Bowl Lajares.
